Alberto Calzolari’s Blog for fly fishing

My Collections

My love for fly fishing and fly tying cannot be disconnected from attraction for things of the past. Crafts from bygone days remind us where we come from. Among all the collectible items the ones I definitely prefer are flies and papers, either books or letters, with of course some exceptions in the middle.

For many years I have been interested in collecting flies made by other tiers.

They don’t necessarily need to be made by famous tiers although many flies pictured here are already highly collectibles.

Some of these flies were tied by friends and some of them come from friend’s collections.

Honestly I don’t care for their value. I simply love to study how they were tied, to touch something made years ago by someone else, to enjoy the texture or the special techniques used.

I like to think that traces of DNA can be found on flies, signed letters and antique books. They are signs of life
